Doctor Who (series 8)

The eighth series of the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who began on 23 August 2014 with "Deep Breath" and ended with "Death in Heaven" on 8 November 2014. The series was officially ordered on 20 May 2013, and led by head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, alongside executive producer Brian Minchin. Nikki Wilson, Peter Bennett and Paul Frift served as producers. The series is the eighth to air following the programme's revival in 2005, and is the thirty-fourth season overall. It is also the first series since series five not to be split into two parts.

The series is the first to star Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor, the most recent incarnation of the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time and space in his TARDIS, which appears to be a British police box on the outside. It also stars Jenna Coleman as his companion, Clara Oswald. Also playing a major recurring role in the series is Samuel Anderson as Danny Pink, Clara's boyfriend. The main story arc revolves around a mysterious woman called Missy (portrayed by Michelle Gomez), who is often seen welcoming people who have died throughout the series to the "Promised Land", a place that serves as an apparent afterlife to deceased characters. Missy's true identity is later revealed to be the Doctor's arch-enemy, the Master, who has hatched a plan using the help of the Cybermen and through manipulation of the Doctor and Clara's relationship.

Doctor Who (season 5)

The fifth season of British science fiction television series Doctor Who began on 2 September 1967 with the first story of season 5 The Tomb of the Cybermen and ended on 1 June 1968 with The Wheel in Space.

Casting

Main cast

Patrick Troughton, Frazer Hines and Deborah Watling appear as The Second Doctor, Jamie McCrimmon and Victoria Waterfield respectively. Deborah Watling departs in the penultimate story Fury from the Deep. Wendy Padbury makes her debut as Zoe Heriot in the season finale, The Wheel in Space.

Guest stars

Jack Watling makes his first and last appearances in the series as Professor Edward Travers in the serials The Abominable Snowmen and The Web of fear. Watling would go on to reprise his role of Travers thirty years on in the spin-off TV film Downtime.

Michael Kilgarriff makes his first appearance as the Cyber-Controller in Tomb of the Cybermen. Kilgarriff would reprise the role eighteen years later in Attack of the Cybermen (1985).

Doctor Who (season 13)

The thirteenth season of British science fiction television series Doctor Who began on 30 August 1975 with the story Terror of the Zygons, and ended with The Seeds of Doom.

Casting

Main cast

Tom Baker continued his role as The Fourth Doctor along with Sarah Jane Smith (Elisabeth Sladen). Harry Sullivan, played by Ian Marter, departed in Terror of the Zygons and reappeared in The Android Invasion as a guest star.

Recurring cast

Nicholas Courtney returned as Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart in Terror of the Zygons having last appeared in Robot. John Levene makes his final appearance as Sergeant Benton in The Android Invasion after six years in the role.

Serials

Terror of the Zygons was produced as part of the production schedule for Season 12, but was held for transmission from the end of that season to the beginning of Season 13, to coincide with a move from the new season starting at the beginning of the calendar year, to starting in late summer. Terror of the Zygons was also the last appearance of the Brigadier until Mawdryn Undead in Season 20. The season took a transmission break of two weeks over the Christmas 1975 period, between the broadcasts of The Android Invasion and The Brain of Morbius.

Desensitized (Drowning Pool album)

Desensitized is the second studio album by American heavy metal band Drowning Pool. It was their first album since the death of vocalist Dave Williams as well as the only album to feature replacement vocalist Jason 'Gong' Jones. The album debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The album cover features porn star Jesse Jane. The album shows less nu metal elements than the band's previous album Sinner.

Jason left the band soon after the album's release because of personal and musical differences. "Step Up" is the only song from the album that is still played during live performances.

Writing and recording

Writing for the album began in 2003. Recording began towards the end of the year and was finished in March 2004.

Love & War (TV series)

Love & War is an American sitcom which aired on CBS from September 21, 1992 to February 1, 1995.

Created by Diane English, the series originally starred Susan Dey as Wally Porter, a Chicago restaurateur, and Jay Thomas as Jack Stein, a newspaper columnist with whom she had an on-again, off-again romance.

After the first season, however, the show was retooled and Dey was fired by the producers of the show, claiming that she and Thomas had "no chemistry" together. She was replaced by Annie Potts as Dana Palladino, who bought Porter's restaurant and also became a love interest for Jack.

The first season also featured moments when Jack or Wally would break the fourth wall and address the camera directly, generally using it as an opportunity to discuss an emotional crisis. This mechanic was dropped in later seasons.

One episode featured a guest appearance from Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David as themselves, they did this as a "thank you" to creator Diane English for allowing a brief scene on Murphy Brown in an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer is cast as the titular character's secretary.

Love and War (Tamar Braxton album)

Love and War is the second studio album by American recording artist Tamar Braxton. The album was released on September 3, 2013, by Epic Records and Streamline Records. It is the first album by Braxton in 13 years. The album was a success, debuting at number two on the US Billboard 200 chart selling 114,000 copies.

Singles

The album's title track "Love and War" was released on December 6, 2012 as the lead single from the album. On January 17, 2013, the music video was released for "Love and War". "Love and War" officially impacted US Rhythmic radio on March 26, 2013. On May 7, 2013, the second single "The One" was released. On May 30, 2013, the music video was released for "The One". " All The Way Home" was sent to Urban Mainstream radio on August 21, 2013 as the third single from the album. On October 17, 2013, a music video was released for "Hot Sugar". The music video for "All The Way Home" was released on December 4, 2013.

Critical response

Love and War (Cornell novel)

Love and War is an original novel written by Paul Cornell and based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who. It features the Seventh Doctor, Ace and introduces a new companion, Bernice Summerfield. A prelude to the novel, also penned by Cornell, appeared in Doctor Who Magazine #192.

An audio adaptation of the novel was released by Big Finish Productions in October 2012 to mark the twentieth anniversary of the character of Bernice Summerfield.

Plot

Ace returns to Perivale to attend the funeral of her childhood friend Julian. Despite the atmosphere of the funeral, she takes comfort that she still has the Doctor and returns to the TARDIS.
